I adore these venue shots. It convinces me there are so many wonderful choices.

Any venues in DC proper with enough land for a croquet set? How about permission for an open flame like a bonfire or even just a grill? How about a venue that lets you play music til 2 or 3 a.m. And probably no chance for this, but fireworks-professional grade? Barring the city, anywhere within half a mile of the Metro?

Hi Magda,
Sorry, all three of those things will be hard to come by within DC city limits or even in the surrounding urban areas like Arlington and Bethesda.
The music thing is best done at hotels that have large ballrooms — usually they don’t have mandatory end times on their events (since they aren’t in residential areas and don’t have whiny neighbors or noise ordinances, you can go as late as you want).
Most venues will allow an open flame only for a religious ceremony…a lot of Indian weddings we’ve done use fire. However, it’s only for a few minutes and must also be outdoors on a patio or terrace. That makes it weather-dependent and not a very reliable choice if you must have fire at your wedding.
The only place we’ve seen professional fireworks is at a private residence in Fredericksburg, VA. You may also be able to do that sort of thing in Leesburg or Centreville/Manassas.
I’d recommend looking for a family-owned venue that is a little more lax on their rules (as compared with something like Woodend, which is operated by the Audubon Society). Maybe it’s worth a call to the Briar Patch B&B in Middleburg, VA?
