Partyland Flowers Open House

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

I recently attended an open house hosted by Partyland Flowers & Event Decor at the Ritz Carlton Tyson’s Corner.  The lead designer at Partyland, Sachi Sood, showcased some of her beautiful linens, floral designs, event props, and mandaps.  Take a look at her gorgeous work:

Partyland is one of the few vendors in the area that offers mandaps.  These are just a few of their designs:

Sachi showed off several beautiful centerpieces:

This gold tree accented with clusters of peach roses was simply stunning:

I especially loved the extraordinary beaded detail on the edges of her linens:

This beautiful peacock blue wedding cake was on display:

Even if you’re not planning an Indian wedding, Sachi’s floral designs and decor pieces can work for any style event!  Give her a call today & schedule your appointment!

WishCandy: Green Bouquets

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

::Disclaimer!  The photos in this post are purely inspirational and not from events that Wish Special Events has planned or coordinated (except where noted).  We can re-create what you see below for your event but these are not a part of our portfolio::

For years, I’ve been saving pictures from web sites of wedding things I love.  Whether it’s a pretty hairstyle, a beautiful bouquet, a unique centerpiece, I’ll save it.  Why?  I honestly have no idea.  Maybe for my imaginary wedding someday (George Clooney, I’m waiting for you to call!), maybe to give brides ideas, I’m not really sure.  My confusion is your bloggy goodness!

Starting today you’ll see a series called “WishCandy.”  I’ll post sets of things that I love (that are wedding related, unless you really want a post of TV shows I love, because really, I could go on and on…)  Unfortunately, I didn’t realize when I began saving images that I should probably note where the picture came from, so many of these are not credited because I simply forgot to note either who the florist was or who took the photograph or from what magazine it came.  So, if you see a photo you know, PLEASE let me know who took it!  We want to give credit where it’s due, either to the amazing floral designers out there or the photographer!

Today, in honor of my best friend’s wedding (my actual best friend, not the movie) I am posting green bouquets.  A lot of brides think there aren’t that many green flowers, or that a green bouquet will be all, well, greenery, and few flowers.  But just look and see what wonderfulness exists in the world of green flowers!  You will note that for most of these, I haven’t said the names of the types of flowers.  That’s because I am a flower moron.  I know, like, 5 flowers.  I have learned a LOT since I’ve become a wedding planner, but really, if you like a picture, just print it out and take it to your floral designer.  He or she will know what they’re looking at a lot better than I do!  I just look and say “Ooh, pretty” – which is what your guests will do too!

I love the purple and green together:

More purple and green, this time with a more eggplant shade.  I can’t decide which I like more!

I hope you’ve enjoyed our first “WishCandy”!  Where do you find your inspiration?

Vendor Spotlight: Elegance & Simplicity

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

Last week I took a trip to visit Katie Martin, owner of Elegance & Simplicity.  They’ve been in business since 1998 and have a beautiful office in the heart of downtown Bethesda.  Katie started as a wedding planner and over the years has added floral services and a bunch of other things to her offerings.  Here’s a sneak peek at some of the floral designs she creates:

One of the greatest things about Elegance & Simplicity is their commitment to the environment.  They only source flowers from farmers who are VeriFlora certified or USDA Organic certified and use sustainable farming methods.  They also support smaller co-ops and farmers who prove fair wage practices.  Their shop is wind-powered and they offset their carbon footprint.  They even drive smaller fuel-efficient delivery vehicles instead of gas-guzzling SUVs and trucks.  This florist is GREEN!

Something else that helps them stand out are the varied product offerings they have.  Did you know you can rent glassware and scoops for a candy buffet without having to buy all those vases yourself?  They have over 500 pieces to choose from so you can get a modern eclectic mix or go classic and matchy.  Elegance & Simplicity can even bring the candy:

There are several companies that provide chuppahs, mandaps, and wedding canopies.  Have you ever seen a wooden one like this, though?  Their in-house carpenter makes these gorgeous arbors.  They have two sizes…one smaller for three people to stand under (you, husband, and the officiant) and a larger one for the whole gang:

A lot of brides call us inquiring about hanging Chinese-style paper lanterns.  While we can’t provide that as a decor service, Elegance & Simplicity can!  Check out this beautiful wedding with dozens of strung orange lanterns:

Here are a few more photos from their website that I found appealing:

If you are a current Wish bride looking for a florist, Elegance & Simplicity is offering 10% to our clients!  Please let us know that you plan to meet with them and we’ll hook you up.
