Congratulations Hayden and Michael!

Thursday, January 6th, 2011

Hayden and Mike were married on a gorgeous day in August in a very DC wedding.

Albert-19

The adorable Kelsey Thompson photographed the day, and was AMAZING to work with.  Of course, it doesn’t hurt that her pictures are gorgeous too!

Albert-11

(Okay, the subjects aren’t too bad either ;)

The day started at the Mayflower Hotel, right in Downtown DC, with Hayden and her many bridesmaids getting hair and makeup done.  Krystal Morant (contact me for info) and Jet Miller did an awesome job — the girls looked GORGEOUS!

Albert-3

My assistant Jamie and I offered a little help getting the flower girls’ crowns on — I am SO not good with hair!

011[1]

012[1]

The girls were all excited when Diana from DaVinci’s, one of our absolute favorite florists, came in with the flowers!  (They did the crowns above, too.)

016[1]

040[1]

I got the boys into their bouts…

001[1]

And then it was off to the church, the STUNNING St. Peters on Capitol Hill.

039[1]

Albert-5

I stayed just long enough to get everyone down the aisle…

013[1]

014[1]

015[1]

Albert-8

(LOVE the shots of the groom first seeing the bride…)

Albert-7

And then it was off to the National Museum of Women in the Arts to set up for the reception.

004[1]

While the assistants and I were setting things up, along with the AMAZING staff at R&R Catering (thanks, Heidi!!), the bridal party headed over to the Capitol with Kelsey for some pictures

Albert-12

(Yes, Hayden’s sister was VERY pregnant!!!)

Albert-16

Albert-17

The bride and groom managed to get a little alone time in the limo on the way back to NMWA

Albert-11

I love how they’re checking out the bling :)   Here’s a close up…

008[1]

LOVE the rings :)   (Hmm…someone want to pass that info along to my boyfriend? ;)

Kelsey and her assistant arrived with the bridal party and were able to get some great detail shots before things kicked off

002[1]

The bride did the embossing on the programs and the escort cards herself!

030[2]

Tables were named after DC area monuments and were marked by pictures taken by the groom

028[1]

Fancy Cakes by Leslie provided the GORGEOUS cake:

Albert-25

And the bride and groom danced to the sounds of DJ Philipz (a little note about the DJ — this kid is GOOD.  Like REALLY REALLY good.  He is just starting to get into doing weddings, and has mostly done club work.  But not only will he SERIOUSLY rock your party, but he’s crazy affordable too!  Definitely shoot him an email, you won’t regret it, the guests danced like CRAZY!!!!!!)

Albert-27

Hayden

This museum is PERFECT for a bouquet toss — the balcony!  The chandelier!  I love it!

038[1]

Guests were treated at the end of the night to a cookies and candy buffet, with the majority of the cookies and treats made by Hayden and her bridesmaids!

037[1]

(I’m loving that linen!)

Wish Candy: Hail to the Redskins

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

::Disclaimer!  The photos in this post are purely inspirational and not from events that Wish Special Events has planned or coordinated.  We can re-create what you see below for your event but these are not a part of our portfolio::

redskins

We’re based in the DC area, so of COURSE I had to do a final football post on the Washington Redskins!  And since today is the kickoff of the 2010 season, we had to save the local team for last!

e21f3e9718df5ee7087a774b11e7eee1

The Redskins colors are burgundy and gold, gorgeous, rich colors that are perfect for a fall wedding during football season (or a winter wedding, during the playoffs!)

Let’s start with the bridesmaids.  It can be difficult to find these two colors together (although Etsy Seller Game Day Dresses makes a cute one!)

So instead, it’s easiest to mix and match!  How about this dress, from J. Crew

with some cute gold shoes like these from Style Me Pretty

A great necklace, like this gold fabric beauty from Anthropologie

And a pair of simple gold earrings, like these from Etsy seller K. Garner Designs

A cute pair of earrings (sorry…found these on Etsy, but can’t remember where!)

And maybe a cute clutch to carry instead of a bouquet? (Etsy seller Shakuyaku)

Clutches make great bridesmaids gifts too!  Speaking of gifts, why not hit the Redskins Store?  For the groomsmen…

For a wedding gift…

Or for favors?

But back to the ladies — or, specifically, the bride.  She needs to get dressed up in her Skins finest too!  Of course, we can’t go over the top, so how about a sash for the dress, either in gold (from The Knot)

The Knot

Or Burgundy (from Etsy Seller K Person Boutique)

And of course, the bride needs a great pair of shoes…

Now that we’ve gotten the boys all hot and bothered, let’s get them dressed too…how amazing is this Dolce and Gabbana suit?!

And a great burgundy bout to go with it…

Speaking of flowers, burgundy can be difficult to find.  However, a great florist can direct you to some GORGEOUS ones.  I’m partial to mums, zinnias and dahlias, all of which are available in the fall, and all of which come in shades of gold AND burgundy!

I know…I should have a catchier title.  But as division rivals to my beloved Steelers, that was the best I could muster.

Still, purple and gold are SUCH a fun color combination, and with two Wish weddings coming up in the Baltimore area, including one walking distance to the Ravens stadium, we couldn’t well leave them out, right?!  (Still…Go Steelers and all…)

Did you know you can get married at M&T Bank Stadium!? (Timmester Photography)

It’s true!  You can get more information here — you can even get the mascots to come to your wedding!

If you don’t want to get married at the stadium, though, there are still a lot of great ways to incorporate the Ravens purple, black and gold into your wedding.

We are the PITTSBURGH STEELERS!!!!!!!!!!!

Steelers Logo

So, after finishing college football week last week, this week we are featuring NFL teams in the lead up to Thursday night’s game kicking off the NFL season.  Naturally, we’ll be starting with the team that’s won more Super Bowls than any other NFL franchise (also because they’re my team, and I’m writing the blog posts), the PITTSBURGH STEELERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(Whenever you write PITTSBURGH STEELERS it must be in all caps, that is how great my love for them is :)

troy-polamalu-sports-illustrated-2005-cover1

What?  Oh, this is supposed to be about weddings?  Right, sorry…I got distracted :)   (But how about Troy’s hair as your wedding hairstyle inspiration?  And you wouldn’t even have to insure yours for $1 million!!!)

The Steelers colors are technically black and gold, but their gold is really more yellow (unlike the gold of Wake Forest or the New Orleans Saints).  Black and yellow make for SUCH fun wedding colors, so putting together this post was a blast!

We’re finishing up college football week here at Wish with a local school near and dear to many hearts in the DC area, the Maryland Terps!

terrapins1

I always thought Maryland’s colors were black and red, but according to the “Maryland Victory Song” it’s black and gold?  Then what’s with the red?  I’m so confused.

Still, most people associate black and red (with some touches of yellow) with Maryland, thanks to the flag, so that’s what inspired me for today’s post!

These two pictures from Kimberly Brooke Photography PERFECTLY show the inspiration for a UMD themed wedding.

untitled_18

Of course, having some beautiful black eyed Susans, the Maryland state flower, to stand in front of doesn’t hurt either!

Speaking of flowers, there are lots of great ways to feature the Terps colors in your bouquet:

OMG, I want to run out of a giant bulldog tunnel too!!!

JMU’s colors are Purple and Gold, but a brighter yellow can also be used.  This is a great color combination and works well if you’re looking for either a deep eggplant color, like this After Six bridesmaids dress:

or a brighter purple, like this adorable Watters dress.

WishCandy: Are you ready for some football?!

Monday, August 30th, 2010

::Disclaimer!  The photos in this post are purely inspirational and not from events that Wish Special Events has planned or coordinated.  We can re-create what you see below for your event but these are not a part of our portfolio::

I. Love. Football.  LOVE it.

My father and brother both played college football and coached high school football.  We are a football family.  We used to go outside during halftime of Steelers games when I was little and play touch football.  My dad and me on one side, my brother and sister on the other.  I missed one home football game in my four years of college.  Get it?  Love football.

SO, in honor of football season starting, I’m doing a series of team color weddings.  This week we’ll start with college football, since it kicks off first (September 4th) and next week we’ll do some NFL teams.

Since I’m the one writing, we get to start with MY team, my beloved Demon Deacons of Wake Forest University!  GO DEACS!

Demon Deacon

Wake Forest’s colors are Old Gold and Black (the Old Gold distinction will be important next week when you see Steelers gold, which is really more of a yellow).  Old Gold, for you Pantone geeks out there, is PMS8640

Pantone

So, you know…gold.

Gold and black actually make for gorgeous wedding colors.  They give off an elegant vibe, and would be perfect, say, for a New Year’s Eve or winter wedding.

Ritzy Bee

(Photo collage from Ritzy Bee)

Style Me Pretty

Gorgeous, right?!  There are SO many elements that you can use for a Demon Deacon wedding.  You can add special touches to the cake, whether it’s the wedding cake:

Or even cupcakes (I am in LOVE with these cupcakes, from English bakery Frosted Cupcakes.  I might start putting glitter on all of the cupcakes I bake from now on.)

Jewelry is another way to bring in the Old Gold and Black.  Of course, you would go with gold jewelry with this theme, but I loved these earrings with the added black touch:

or this necklace from Nordstrom

Or even this simple picture of a couple’s rings, tied with gold ribbon (photographed by Ben Crisman)

A few months ago, Nicole & Matt tied the knot!  Sorry I didn’t post photos sooner — while I don’t have a lot of pictures from the day I just came across these and thought I’d share them.  I believe their pictures are online somewhere so I’ll try to get the pro ones to share too!

Nicole is the younger sister of Amy, one of our 2007 brides.  It’s always so lovely when families know we’ll do a great job on the wedding day and call us again for younger siblings.  It was really a pleasure to work with these ladies again.

While I don’t have photos of the ceremony, Nicole & Matt exchanged vows at St. John Neumann’s in Reston.  St. John’s is a very big, modern, and airy church that lets in plenty of sunlight.  It was really a beautiful and touching ceremony.

Once at Meadowlark, Nicole & Matt wanted to use the beautiful natural scenery for their bridal party photos.  Here’s photographer Jimmy Ryan doing his thing:

I really thought these bridesmaids dresses were fabulous!  When’s the last time you’ve seen a patterned gown like these?  They were perfectly summery and looked great on the girls.  Nicole’s sister, Amy, is the second one from the right:

Inside, the reception’s in full swing!  The Reston Hyatt’s Regency Caterers did a wonderful job with the food & service.  I really liked the gold linens in the room — it looked really elegant and understated:

One of my favorite details of this wedding were the mini cakes!  Each table had a glass cake plate with a small cake instead of a centerpiece.  They went perfectly with the wedding’s garden theme.  Pastries by Randolph did a great job on these:

After Nicole & Matt cut their own little wedding cake, they invited guests to slice & serve each cake at their table.  Everyone had a blast with that!

Congratulations again, Nicole & Matt!  Talk to you soon!

Congratulations Stacey & Todd!

The first weekend in October was a fabulous time for a wedding!  Stacey & Todd had a gorgeous fall day with warm sunlight and a cool breeze.  We started the day off in Georgetown, at Holy Trinity’s Chapel of St. Ignatius Loyola.  I always love weddings in historic Georgetown:

Here’s the front of the chapel.  35 years older than the main church, this pretty building dates to 1794!  I loved the white hydrangea wreaths that DaVinci’s Florist hung on the doors:

After the intimate and touching ceremony, Stacey, Todd, and their families took photographs outside in the chapel’s pretty courtyard.  I thought Stacey looked just stunning in her elegant gown and long veil:

After the family photos, the newlyweds and their bridal party went on a photo safari around the DC monuments.  The advantage of having an afternoon ceremony and evening reception is that you have plenty of time for photos like these!  The next two images were taken by photographer Armin DeFiesta:

The steps of the US Capitol are so utterly ‘DC’ in every way.  I really like this photo because it shows Todd’s “groomswoman” on the right.  His friend Jody stood on Todd’s side during the ceremony and wore black to match the tuxedos.  She carried a bouquet and had a similar style gown like the bridesmaids.  I thought it was a perfect way to match her to the rest of the bridal party:

Armin somehow convinced the US Capitol Police to get them closer to the building!  Here they are coming down from the photo shoot, escorted by the police.  Want to see the images he captured?  Check out Armin’s Blog to see more!

Meanwhile, the set-up at The Washington Club on Dupont Circle was going smoothly!  Here’s the stunning white face of the building:

Just inside, we displayed the guest book and family photographs on an existing marble table:

The guest book was a coffee table photo book of DC!  Guests could use a black or silver marker to write notes to the couple.  What a great way to incorporate DC into the festivities:

Upstairs inside the club, Ridgewells, DaVinci’s Florist, and the band were hastily setting the final touches on the reception:

Here’s a view from the back of the room.  Did you know that The Washington Club has it’s own in-house uplighting?  Stacey & Todd chose an amber color to match the gold & ivory colors of the wedding as well as the warm wood tones in the room.  The band, Doctor’s Orders, somehow all fit on the little stage:

This was one of my favorite floral pieces of the day.  DaVinci’s Florist created this solid rectangular cube out of hydrangea and nestled votive candles inside.  It sat on the sweetheart table and provided just enough romantic candlelight for the newlyweds.  Gorgeous!

My second-favorite piece was the bridal bouquet.  Stacey carried this all-white collection of roses, calla lilies, and poppies:

The wedding cake is a little tricky to see here but really was beautiful!  It mimicked a photograph that Stacey gave the baker, Lara Stuckey of Fluffy Thoughts.  I especially loved the little twigs sticking out of the flowers to match the centerpieces:

Doctor’s Orders rocked the party the whole night!  We should have had a bigger dance area but we moved some dinner tables out of the way once people were done eating.  What a fun time everyone had!

The night was full of culinary surprises.  Towards the end of the evening, Ridgewell’s came out with mini sliders and hash browns, perfect for anyone with the late-night munchies.  It was so much fun to see the shock and delight on the faces of their guests when they realized what they were being offered!  I always love little surprises like that.

Then, as guests headed back down towards the staircase at the end of the evening, they were encouraged to take a little bag of sweets from the candy table.  Some of the chocolates were hand-made by Stacey!  Isn’t this display adorable?

Congratulations again, Stacey & Todd!  I hope you had a fantastic time on your honeymoon in South America!
