I mentioned this in my post about the University of Maryland , but with red and yellow, you have to be careful you don’t venture into Ronald McDonald territory when you’re going with this color scheme:

I know, I know — you’re thinking summer, 4th of July, Patriotic, right?  Well, yes…but not always.  There are various shades of blue, and if you pair them with red properly, you don’t have to look like the American flag…unless you want to, of course!

I’ve said this before, but the best way to avoid looking too “themey” is to use two colors primarily (red and white, red and blue, or blue and white) with just small touches of the other color.  For example, I love these bridesmaids dresses in varying shades of blue, and they would be perfect with red bouquets!

February in this area is usually cold, snowy, and generally blah.  But all of the red you see everywhere leading up to Valentine’s Day makes it a little more cheerful, don’t you think?!  So leading up to Valentine’s Day, I’m going to do a series of short posts on some fun things you can do with red for your wedding.

The first is the one that I find most interesting, red and purple.  It’s not a color combination that everyone would think of, but once I started looking around, I realized how much I loved it!

I recently had the chance to visit the team at Party Rental, Ltd at their open house in New York City!  They were showing off some fun new pieces in their collection — many of which will be making appearances at fashionable parties over the next few months.  This is where the trends start!

The blue chargers, napkins and glassware really coordinate well with this coral/orange/blue linen.  Look how adorable that blue polka dotted plate is!

This silver/white/clear combination would be perfect for a winter wedding.  I like how they mixed and matched pieces for the display but everything still ‘goes’ together:

Did you know you can rent a pretty bar instead of just using a rectangular table with a linen on it?  Or the hotel’s standard rolling bar?  This one had a gorgeous alligator skin texture on the front:
